Description

1865 3CS AU55 PCGS. Interestingly, according to Walter Breen (1988), this issue was unknown to exist in business strike form until discovered in 1956. Breen also indicates that most of the 8,000-piece circulation strike mintage was likely melted in July 1873. Soft champagne-gray patina rests on both sides of this Choice AU specimen, each of which exhibits a relatively sharp strike and clean surfaces. Clash marks occur on both obverse and reverse. Housed in a green label holder.(Registry values: N991)
