1866 Three Cent Silver, Brilliant MS66
1866 3CS MS66 PCGS. CAC. The appeal of this all-brilliant,
thickly frosted Premium Gem example is undeniable. The obverse is
decidedly prooflike with bold field-device contrast, unsurprising
given the issue's low mintage. The reverse similarly displays
noticeable contrast, though it is less overt than the obverse.
Well-struck aside from minor softness on the olive leaves.
Encapsulated in a green label holder.
Frosty, Seemingly Freshly Minted
Population Data (8/15): PCGS records 10 Premium Gems and 12 submissions finer, while NGC shows 12 MS66 representatives and five finer.
Heritage Commentary: The 1866 (22,000 examples struck) claims a somewhat higher production than its ultralow-mintage contemporaries, but it enjoys a comparably low survival rate with just 600 coins believed extant, per CoinFacts. This wonderful MS66 representative will appeal to those who admire the look of an untoned, seemingly freshly minted example.
Provenance: Purchased from Pinnacle Rarities (9/1996).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 22NK, PCGS# 3686)
Weight: 0.75 grams
Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
