    Description

NGC 1872 MS 65. A rare business strike example of this seldom seen date in the three-cent silver series. Only 1,950 coins were struck of both proofs and commercial strikings with 950 of those being proofs. Many of the proofs were saved over the years and quite a number of the business strikes were melted in July, 1873. The same pair of dies were used for both business strikes and proofs, and naturally some confusion can exist regarding a coin's status. This piece has bright, reflective fields, but lacks the crisp highpoint definition one would expect from a proof striking. Of great interest to collectors of this short and interesting series. Population: 3 in 65, only 1 finer (4/94). (NGC ID# 22ZN, PCGS# 3693)

    Weight: 0.75 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
