Description

1854 Three Dollar, MS62
Popular First-Year Issue

1854 $3 MS62 NGC. The mintage of 138,618 pieces ensures that the 1854 three dollar is one of the three most available dates in the series. While many series have high-availability first-year issues, it is surprising that a gold coin would still be relatively available in Uncirculated grades 166 years after striking. This is a pleasing, lustrous example that displays rich, swirling mint luster. The only surface flaw worthy of note is Mint-created: a diagonal grease stain that was struck into the center of the reverse. The striking details are generally strong throughout with especially sharp definition on the lower knot on the reverse.(Registry values: N2998)
