Description

1854-O Three Dollar, AU53
Single-Year Branch Mint Issue

1854-O $3 AU53 NGC. Winter-2. New Orleans only struck one issue of the three dollar piece in 1854, using a single die pair for the 24,000 pieces struck. Two 1854-O varieties are documented, and this AU53 is the more common Winter-2 variant, the later die state that has diminished details from die lapping. Vibrant orange-gold surfaces are accented with faint undertones of olive and powder-blue. Typical softness is seen on the legends and bow ribbons, and a nick on Liberty's upper jaw and a mark down her neck are noted.(Registry values: N2998)
