    Description

    Condition Census 1855 Three Dollar

1855 $3 MS 66 NGC. Unlike the 1878, this early P-mint issue is not at all common in Mint State. We believe that the novelty of this odd denomination had worn off considerably by 1855 with the result that most of the 50,555 pieces delivered went directly into circulation. While the occasional BU example is available for the less demanding collector, this MS 66 survivor is one of the two finest certified specimens known to both NGC and PCGS (5/00). Incredibly frosty, the yellow-gold surfaces display captivating mint bloom. The strike is characteristically soft over the lower wreath and upper headdress, but the balance of the features are uncommonly well defined for the issue. A small, inconspicuous alloy spot along the obverse rim outside the R in AMERICA is noted solely as a pedigree marker. (NGC ID# 25M6, PCGS# 7972)

    Weight: 5.02 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
