Very Scarce Borderline Unc. 1855-S Three Dollar
1855-S AU 58 PCGS. The 1855-S is an unsung condition rarity in the three dollar series and a scarcity in all grades, with relatively few survivors from a mintage of just 6,600 pieces. According to Akers' research done some years ago, the '55-S had the fewest number of auction appearances of any regular issue three dollar except for the Closed 3 1873. This piece is a bit softly struck, but the surfaces are exceptionally clean with nearly full mint luster remaining. Solid Condition Census quality.
