Elusive Choice AU 1856-S Three Dollar
1856-S $3 AU55 NGC. Medium S. The 1856-S is relatively easy to obtain in circulated grades but becomes rare in Mint State. Indeed, NGC and PCGS have graded only about 30 Uncirculated pieces, a number of which are likely resubmitted coins. This situation makes the current Choice AU coin quite special. A trace of wear is evident on the highpoints of the design, and pleasing lemon-yellow color is accented by a hint of green.
