1857 Three Dollar Gold Piece, MS62

1857 $3 MS62 NGC. The 1857 three dollar gold piece had a mintage of 20,891 coins at Philadelphia in 1857, a typical mintage for the denomination in the 1850s. For many coins in other series, that mintage would equate to a significant rarity, but not so for the threes. This piece has scattered marks and inconsequential hairlines on the brilliant and frosty yellow gold surfaces with full cartwheel luster. Census: 39 in 62 (2 in 62+), 22 finer (3/19).
