Description

Well Struck 1857 Three Dollar, MS62

1857 $3 MS62 NGC. With a mintage of 20,891 pieces, the 1857 three dollar certainly cannot be classed as a common issue. However, fewer than a hundred pieces are believed known today in the various grades of Uncirculated. Coins in the MS62 category, such as this one, are the most frequently encountered, and probably represent the best value. The reddish-gold surfaces show a number of small abrasions on each side that account for the grade. An attentive strike brings out sharp definition on the design elements. Census: 32 in 62, 19 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N2998)
