Scarce 1857-S Three Dollar, AU53
1857-S $3 AU53 NGC. As usual with San Francisco threes, these pieces were not set aside by collectors on the West Coast. Rather, they entered the channels of commerce and by the time collectors began to search for mintmarked coins (some 40 years later), most were heavily circulated. This bright AU53 shows even peach-gold color, slight friction over the high points, and only minor abrasions.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25MB, PCGS# 7977, GSID# 8665)
