1857-S $3 --Improperly Cleaned--NCS. XF Details. Dusky yellow-orange patina envelops both sides. A few shallow marks on the obverse are barely worthy of note, but the date is unusually soft. Bowers (2005) believes that the 1857-S is "very scarce in any grade" and estimates that only 160 to 225 examples still exist.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25MB, PCGS# 7977, GSID# 8665)
