Description

1858 Three Dollar, AU55
Scarce in All Grades

1858 $3 AU55 PCGS. The 1858 is among the rarer early Philadelphia issues in the three dollar gold series. Only 2,133 pieces were struck, and even high-end AU coins are seldom seen. Perhaps four to five dozen examples grade finer than the current coin, accounting for duplications in the population reports. This piece has bright straw-gold luster and only light wear, with scattered light abrasions that do not detract. PCGS Population: 27 in 55, 30 finer (10/25).(Registry values: N2998)
