Scarce Uncirculated 1859 Three Dollar
1859 $3 MS61 NGC. With a generous mintage for the three dollar series, the 1859 is surprisingly unavailable in mint condition. Only 70-90 pieces are believed known today in Uncirculated grades. This piece shows repunching on the right side of the 9 in the date, and the usual squat 5 with a wide right side and small ball to the left. The surfaces are colorful, with much reddish patina interspersed with lilac on each side. The strike is well but not fully brought up, with some softness (usually seen) on the bowknot.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25MD, PCGS# 7979, GSID# 8632)
