    Description

    1859 Three Dollar, MS64
    Eye-Appealing Example

1859 $3 MS64 PCGS. The 1859 three dollar gold, struck to the extent of 15,558 pieces, would be considered a low-mintage emission in most U.S. coin series, but in the context of these coins, it is a rather moderate mintage -- especially given the minuscule productions that would occur toward the end of the series. This 1859 three is better-defined than usually seen. The characteristic "swirl" of luster is present but softer than usual, offset by semireflectivity in the fields. Yellow-gold surfaces show touches of orange at certain angles and glimpses of blue at others. An eye-appealing near-Gem. Population: 15 in 64, 7 finer (10/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 25MD, PCGS# 7979)
