Elusive 1860 Three Dollar Gold Piece, MS63
1860 $3 MS63 PCGS. As relations between the North and South began to break down, coinage of gold saw diminished production. Only 7,036 business strike threes were minted in 1860, and they are elusive in any grade. Especially rare are coins that grade MS63 or finer. This sensational example has rich orange-gold luster with reflective fields and bold design definition, save for the ribbon knot. Population: 13 in 63, 16 finer (6/10).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25ME, PCGS# 7980, GSID# 8633)
