1861 Three Dollar, AU50
Old-Time Patina

1861 $3 AU50 NGC. The Philadelphia Mint struck just shy of 6,000 three dollar gold pieces in 1861. The date is usually available today, although many examples are cleaned or otherwise impaired, and collectors seeking a coin with old-time patina will have a challenge. This AU coin is such a piece, showing deep orange-gold and olive surfaces with light wear. Remnants of luster remain in the most protected areas.(Registry values: N1793)
