Description

Attractive AU55 1861 Three Dollar

1861 $3 AU55 NGC. CAC. The low-mintage three dollar gold denomination had a moderately active place in circulation until the onset of the Civil War in 1861, when nearly all gold and silver currency disappeared into hoards. This modestly worn example comes from that fateful year, in which just 5,959 business strikes were produced. Peach-accented yellow-gold surfaces remain pleasingly lustrous.(Registry values: N1793)
