Description

Pleasing Select 1862 Three Dollar Gold

1862 $3 MS63 PCGS. With the onset of the Civil War, gold and silver coinage rapidly disappeared from circulation, and the already-unpopular three dollar gold pieces were no exception. The 1862 issue is no exception, and coins such as the present Select piece are highly prized. Warm honey-gold surfaces offer lovely luster with blushes of peach and rose. The strike offers a wealth of detail, and Liberty's hair shows all of its fine strands. Lines to the left of the portrait and wreath are die striations that were present when the coin was struck. Population: 9 in 63, 18 finer (8/08).(Registry values: N4719)
