Description

Pleasing 1863 Three, MS62

1863 $3 MS62 NGC. Those 1863 three dollar pieces that survive today were almost certainly obtained directly from the Mint by collectors, or obtained from the Mint as birthday or Christmas presents. During the Civil War, gold coins were never released into circulation. Market appearances in Mint State grades are infrequent. This pleasing piece has soft, frosty orange-gold luster with a splash of green patina. Census: 11 in 62, 25 finer (9/09).(Registry values: N2998)
