1867 Three Dollar Gold, MS60
1867 $3 MS60 NGC. Ex: South Texas Collection. This is an
underrated date, with only 2,600 examples minted in 1867, and
survivors are elusive. This piece exhibits a sharp strike, and like
most examples of the date, it displays reflective fields. The low
mintage was insufficient for the original die polish to diminish
from repeated press cycles. Census: 3 in 60, 23 finer (3/13).
Underrated Low-Mintage Issue
Ex: Houston Signature (Heritage, 12/2009), lot 1609, which realized $4,168.75.
