Description

Unquestionably Rare 1869 Three Dollar Gold Piece

1869 $3 MS62 PCGS. This is a date that does not show up in our auctions with any degree of regularity. The 1869 is among the more conditionally challenging Three Dollar gold issues from the 1860s with choice survivors being rarer than those of the 1863, 1864, and 1867 deliveries. What's more, the 1869 is not perceptibly more available in MS62 than it is in the finer Mint State grades. Semi-prooflike in finish, both sides of this coin display a yellow-gold sheen and bold-to-sharp striking detail in all areas. There are a few moderate abrasions in the fields, but mostly the surfaces are just a bit too scuffy to warrant a Choice designation. NGC and PCGS Population: 6 in 62, there are just seven coins finer (1/03). (NGC ID# 25MR, PCGS# 7990)

    Weight: 5.02 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
