Description

1871 Three Dollar Gold Piece, MS61
Prooflike Surfaces, Low Mintage

1871 $3 MS61 NGC. From a minuscule mintage of 1,300 pieces, the 1871 three dollar gold piece is surprisingly available in lower grades, but coins in Mint State condition are rare. The present attractive example exhibits reflective, prooflike fields, with light yellow-gold color. The strike is typically a little soft on Liberty's hair and 18 of the date. The surfaces are minimally abraded for the grade. Census: 15 in 61, 21 finer (7/10).(Registry values: N2998)
