1873 $3 Closed 3--Repaired--NCS. XF Details. The Closed 3 variety is a rare issue, and yet this is the more plentiful of two varieties, since the Open 3 is proof-only. The present piece is thickly hairlined, and the obverse field has several faint marks. The reverse field is extensive tooled between 1 and 5 o'clock, and 7 and 11 o'clock, presumably to efface evidence of a removed mount.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25MW, PCGS# 7995, Greysheet# 8646)
