Description

1877 Three Dollar Gold, AU50
Mintage 1,468 Business Strikes

1877 $3 AU50 PCGS. From a tiny mintage of 1,468 coins, the 1877 three dollar gold piece is one of the key dates in the series. Probably no more than 100-110 examples survive today in all grades, and Mint State specimens are very rare. At the AU50 level, PCGS and NGC combined have certified only eight coins (8/10). The present coin is an attractive specimen, with reflective orange-gold surfaces, highlighted by shades of rose color. The devices are well struck, with slight wear showing on the hair and headdress plumes. A scattering of minor abrasions on both sides is consistent with the grade. The pleasing color and luster combine to create intense visual appeal.(Registry values: N2998)
