    1877 Three Dollar Gold, MS61
    Only 1,468 Business Strikes
    Typical Mirrored Surfaces

1877 $3 MS61 PCGS. Ex: South Texas. Sandwiched between the high mintage 1874 and 1878 three dollar gold pieces are the proof-only 1875 and 1876 issues, and the low-mintage 1877, from a business strike production of only 1,468 coins. The Smithsonian Institution has just one example that is graded AU58 Prooflike. This specimen from the South Texas collection is slightly finer at MS61. Although undesignated, this example has mirrored straw-gold fields with splashes of pale blue and light orange toning. A glass is required to see the trivial hairlines and surface marks on this impressive piece. Population: 6 in 61, 4 finer (7/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 25MY, PCGS# 7999)
