1878 $3 MS64+ NGC. CAC. The 1878 three dollar boasts a large
mintage of 82,304 pieces, as it was estimated to serve as gold coin
exchange for paper bills at par. When anticipated trades were not
realized, the issue was well-saved and is plentiful through Gem.
Displaying autumn-gold patina on coruscating surfaces, this
Plus-graded near-Gem piece also earns endorsement from CAC. The
well-struck devices show only typical softness on the bow knot.
