1878 $3 MS64 PCGS. The large 82,304-piece mintage was
intended to serve as gold coin exchange for paper bills at par, but
public demand never materialized. Fortunately for collectors, the
availability of the 1878 three dollar issue continues to this day,
offering type collectors and series specialists many opportunities
to find a high-grade example. This Choice Uncirculated coin is
highly lustrous and well struck. An attractive combination of mint
frost and satin-smooth surfaces creates outstanding eye
