1879 Three Dollar, AU58 Prooflike
Deeply Reflective Fields
1879 $3 AU58 Prooflike NGC. The 1879 has a familiar
combination of low mintage (3,000 pieces) and disproportionately
high survival rate, making it an enticing acquisition for most
collectors but also relatively available in Mint State. This piece
stands apart from most of its peers with the Prooflike designation,
which is seen on few examples of this issue, despite many having
semiprooflike reflectivity. Each side displays pleasing yellow-gold
color and bold definition. Slight rub in the fields determines the
grade, but ample mirroring remains. Census: 6 in 58 Prooflike, 26
