    Low-Mintage 1880 Three Dollar
    Uncirculated Details

1880 $3 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. Unc. 1878 was the last year that the Mint struck more than a token mintage of the three dollar denomination. The 1880 production was just 1,000 pieces. Most were apparently purchased by dealers, since very few have been certified in AU55 or lower grades. The present fully struck example has lovely pumpkin-gold color and lacks abrasions apparent to the unaided eye. Careful study beneath a lens reveals only minor hairlines.
