Description

Desirable 1880 Three Dollar, MS64

1880 $3 MS64 NGC. Some imperfections from the original planchet are visible near the R in AMERICA, but the balance of the obverse and reverse surfaces are remarkable. The fields of this important three dollar gold piece are fully reflective around lustrous devices, resulting in delightful cameo contrast.
Only 1,000 business strikes were coined, along with another 36 proofs. The mintage is responsible for the rarity and desirability of this issue. Collectors everywhere gather together to bid when one of these appears at auction. Census: 49 in 64, 23 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N4719)
