Description

1880 Three Dollar, MS64
Green Label Holder

1880 $3 MS64 PCGS. Rich orange-gold surfaces contain faint periwinkle and lilac highlights over reflective fields. The devices are sharply struck and frosty. A few light marks on Liberty's cheek and in the adjacent field limit the grade but are not bothersome for the MS64 level. On the reverse, a circular threadlike strike-through connects the wreath tips at 12 o'clock. Housed in a generation 3.1 green label holder.
Circulation strike coinage of the 1880 three dollar piece amounted to only 1,000 coins, rendering this date among the low-mintage issues of the 1880s that are so heavily sought after today. Significant quantities were preserved at the time of issue, but as fine as MS64 the date is still scarce, and higher-grade coins are rare.(Registry values: N4719)
