Description
Bright Gem 1880 Three Dollar Gold
1880 $3 MS65 PCGS. The Indian Princess three dollar gold series had less than a decade to run when this example was made, one of only 1,000 business strikes for the year. Most survivors of the issue understandably show some prooflikeness, and this coin is no exception. The fields are bright and semiprooflike, with pronounced deep red patina on both sides interspersed with glints of lilac. The strike is sharp, if just short of full. Only a few tiny pinprick marks appear in the fields, but this Gem coin offers tremendous eye appeal. It would be extremely difficult to find a finer-graded representative, as NGC and PCGS combined have certified less than a dozen in higher grades. Population: 14 in 65, 5 finer (8/09).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25N3, PCGS# 8002, GSID# 8651)
