1880 Three Dollar, Elusive Gem Example
    Only Four Finer at PCGS

1880 $3 MS65 PCGS. Bowers writes that the 1880 three dollar gold "stands high in the rarity sweepstakes," due in no small measure to its skimpy mintage of 1,000 business strikes and 36 proofs. This Gem circulation strike is bettered by a meager four submissions at the MS66 level at PCGS (10/11). The fields exhibit deep reflectivity over a lovely mixture of yellow-gold and reddish-gold on each side. The strike is sharp but not quite complete, and a couple of tiny grease stains appear by UN on the obverse, with a larger one left of the 1 in the date on the reverse. A long, shallow mark also appears on that side, below the 80 in the date.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 25N3, PCGS# 8002)

If my clients were to auction something of significance, having Mike as the auctioneer would be a deal maker as far as I am concerned.
