Rare 1881 Three Dollar Gold, Choice AU58 NGC
1881 $3 AU58 NGC. Unlike most low mintage issues in this series, the 1881 apparently saw enough circulation to warrant its status as the fourth rarest P-mint Three Dollar gold piece. Although this is a lightly worn, moderately abraded survivor, the surfaces still retain evidence of a prooflike finish--a diagnostic feature of this low mintage (500 pieces) production. All details are nicely defined and the yellow-gold and copper coloration exudes originality.From The Greg and Lesia Hosch Collection.(#8003) (Registry values: N2998)
