1881 $3 AU58 PCGS....
Description
1881 Three Dollar Gold, AU58
Lowest Mintage in the Series
1881 $3 AU58 PCGS. The 1881 three dollar gold piece claims
the lowest business-strike mintage of the denomination, at a mere
500 pieces. Fortunately, the issue was heavily saved by
contemporary numismatists, so examples are not as difficult to
locate as the tiny production total would suggest. This attractive
near-Mint specimen shows just a trace of friction on the strongly
impressed design elements, and the lightly abraded orange-gold
surfaces retain much original mint luster. This coin should find a
home in a fine collection or type set. Population: 27 in 58, 36
finer (10/25).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25N4, PCGS# 8003, Greysheet# 8652)
