Delightful 1882 Three Dollar, AU58
1882 $3 AU58 NGC. The semiprooflike fields of this near-Mint State three dollar highlight its well defined motifs, and both sides display attractive variegated brass-gold and peach coloration. This issue has generated considerable proof/prooflike debate as the latter often closely resemble proofs. The repunched 2 in the date, with a crescent-shaped vestige of an earlier 2 above the final digit, confirms the circulation-strike status of the present offering.
