    1882 Three Dollar Gold, AU58
    Sharp, Partially Prooflike

1882 $3 Repunched Date, FS-301, AU58 NGC. Repunching on the 2 in the date confirms the business strike dies for this scarce, near-Mint 1882. The mintage was just 1,500 pieces -- a tiny number, but many coins were saved by collectors and speculators. The present coin shows areas of the original prooflike surfaces although the fields display light chatter from brief circulation. Attractive, orange and lilac highlights enhance the rich-gold color amid traces of original mint luster.
    From The Twelve Oaks Collection.
