Description
1883 Three Dollar Gold Piece, MS62
Only 900 Minted
1883 $3 MS62 PCGS. The 1883 three dollar gold piece boasts a
low mintage of just 900 pieces. Mint State specimens are seldom
encountered today, with Q. David Bowers estimating a surviving
total of only 75-100 examples in Uncirculated grades (an estimate
that coincides well with population data from the grading
services). The present coin is a pleasing example, with prooflike
reflective fields and a sharp strike throughout. A shallow scratch
in the obverse field accounts for the grade. Population: 33 in 62,
46 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25N6, PCGS# 8005, GSID# 8654)
