Description

Gem 1883 Three Dollar Gold Piece
An Excellent Type Coin

1883 $3 MS65 NGC. CAC. The 1883 three dollar gold piece is a popular date because of its low mintage of 900 pieces. A fairly high number of the original mintage has survived to the present day, however, judging from the more than 300 coins that have been graded by NGC and PCGS. A relatively large number of these are in the Mint State levels of preservation, making the issue a popular choice for high-grade type collections.
The yellow-gold surfaces of this Gem display pleasing field-device contrast, especially when the coin is tilted under a light source. Additionally, all of the design elements are sharply impressed, enhancing even more the coin's outstanding eye appeal. This is a minimally marked example, just a breath away from the next highest grade. Census: 7 in 65, 0 finer (11/11).
