    Description

    1883 Three Dollar Gold, MS65
    Tied for Finest at NGC

1883 $3 MS65 NGC. This Gem 1883 three dollar gold piece ranks among the finer-known survivors from a paltry 900-coin mintage. This issue is known for often exhibiting prooflike fields, and the current piece represents this trait to a noticeable extent. Warm honey-gold patina accents subtle cameo contrast on each side, and the surfaces are delightfully well-preserved. Trivial weakness is noted on the wreath bow, as usual, but the striking definition is above-average overall. The 1883 is one of only three issues in the entire series with a mintage of less than 1,000 coins, although enough Mint State pieces were saved at the time of issue that the date is moderately collectible today. Nonetheless, Gem representatives are major rarities. Census: 8 in 65, 0 finer (4/15).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 25N6, PCGS# 8005)

    Weight: 5.02 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
