    Description

    Low-Mintage 1884 Three Dollar, MS64

1884 $3 MS64 NGC. This near-Gem from the post-1878 final stage of the three dollar gold series has glimmers of reflectivity in the protected areas and more traditional swirling luster through the surrounding fields. Well-defined devices show few abrasions, though a small nick above the A in DOLLARS helps determine the grade. The 1884 is best known for its low mintage, at just 1,000 pieces smaller than that of the more famous 1854-D, and is part of a string of dates from 1880 to 1886 that saw no business strike output of more than 1,500 coins. Census: 13 in 64, 8 finer (10/11).(Registry values: N4719)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25N7, PCGS# 8006)
