Description

1885 Three Dollar Gold, MS60
Only 801 Pieces Struck

1885 $3 MS60 NGC. The 1885 three dollar gold piece had an enticingly low mintage of 801 coins, one of only three issues in the series with a mintage below 1,000 pieces. Nonetheless, in 1885, the three dollar denomination circulated little as compared to previous decades, and a higher number of Mint State pieces survive today than might be expected, making the date collectible. This boldly struck prooflike example displays bright yellow-gold color with scattered marks and hairlines that determine the grade. Census: 1 in 60, 60 finer (4/16).(Registry values: N2998)
