    Low-Mintage 1885 Three Dollar Gold, MS64
    801 Pieces Coined

1885 $3 MS64 NGC. Ex: Princess Collection. The 1885 three dollar gold had an incredibly low mintage for a business strike gold coin, at 801 pieces the second-lowest of the entire series behind the 1881, with 500 coins. It nonetheless appears as though there were some astute dealers and collectors who were attuned both to the low mintages and to the possibility the series might soon end, as it indeed did in 1889. Examples today are scarce but obtainable, mostly in Mint State grades or thereabouts. This near-Gem specimen is prooflike on both sides, with excellent attractive orange-gold coloration and only a few minor ticks consistent with the grade. Census: 16 in 64, 5 finer (3/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 7KDP, PCGS# 8007)

    Weight: 5.02 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
