    Description

    Appealing 1885 Three Dollar, MS65
    An Important Condition Rarity

1885 $3 MS65 PCGS. CAC. Despite the low mintage of 801 circulation strikes, the 1885 three dollar has a reasonably high survival rate. It is estimated that 165 to 220 pieces are extant, 75 to 100 of which are probably Mint State. Uncirculated examples are concentrated in the MS60 to MS64 range, and Gem and finer coins are rare. PCGS and NGC combined have seen only 10 Gem specimens and seven coins finer, some of which are likely resubmissions.
The peach-gold surfaces of this MS65 offering display prooflike fields (not so designated by PCGS) that display noticeable contrast with the motifs. The design elements are well-struck, a typical characteristic of the issue. A few minute grazes in the fields preclude an even finer grade. All in all, this piece exhibits excellent overall eye appeal and will make a wonderful addition to a high-grade gold collection. Population: 10 in 65, 7 finer (12/12).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 7KDP, PCGS# 8007)

    Weight: 5.02 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
