Description

Lustrous and Colorful MS64 1888 Three Dollar

1888 $3 MS64 PCGS. The three dollar series abounds with low mintages, and many of those coins have not survived. While the mint struck only 5000 business strikes in 1888, enough of them remain today in Mint State condition so that their price is equal to coins from 1874 or 1878, which had substantially larger mintages. Thus, type collectors can obtain a much scarcer coin for the same price as a more common coin from these years. This piece displays thick mint luster and each side has alternating areas of rose and lilac patina. Sharply defined. (Registry values: N2998)
