    Description

Frosty Gem 1888 Three Dollar Gold

1888 $3 MS65 PCGS. Although considered a common date despite a low mintage and by no means unusual in Mint State grades, the 1888 three dollar gold becomes scarce when it reaches the Gem level of preservation. This is a bright, highly lustrous, frosty piece with deep orange-gold highlights on the obverse in contrast with the pale peach-gold color that dominates the rest of the coin. There is no trace of reflectivity in the fields. The strike is strong, with only a shade of weakness on the ribbon on the reverse. Surface abrasions are at a minimum, with most not visible without magnification. Housed in a green label PCGS holder.
