Description

Attractive 1889 Three Dollar, MS64

1889 $3 MS64 PCGS. In this last year of the three dollar gold denomination, the mintage fell to 2,300 coins. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth (2006), however, write that: "... a high percentage of the coins survived, mostly in Mint State, reflective of the increase in the number of collectors in America and the demand for the series." Luster dances about the apricot-gold and greenish tinted surfaces of this near-Gem example, and the design elements are strongly impressed. Minute obverse handling marks preclude full Gem classification. Population: 43 in 64, 35 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N2998)
