Description

Highly Attractive 1873-CC Trade Dollar, MS62

1873-CC T$1 MS62 PCGS. CAC. In 1873, the first year for the Trade dollar series, 124,500 coins bore the CC mintmark. Between 750 to 1,000 pieces have been estimated to exist in all grade levels. Rusty Goe, in The Mint On Carson Street, suggests that about 50 to 75 of these are in Mint State. The latter estimate more or less coincides with certified population figures, as PCGS and NGC have graded approximately 75 Uncirculated examples.
Whispers of bluish-gray and reddish-brown patina visit this MS62 coin. While the hair on Liberty's head and the adjacent stars are soft, the remaining design elements exhibit strong definition. The fields show some prooflike characteristics and yield a degree of variance with the devices. Scattered light handling marksundisturbingubing. All in all, a highly attractive piece for the designated grade. Population: 17 in 62, 16 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N4719)
