Description

1873-CC Trade Dollar, MS62
Frosty, Unusually Attractive Surfaces

1873-CC T$1 MS62 PCGS. CAC. Type One Obverse and Reverse. Silver dollar production at the Carson City increased dramatically with the introduction of the Trade dollar; 124,500 pieces were struck in the latter half of 1873, but nearly all were shipped to the Orient for trade. A few pieces circulated domestically, but little collector attention was paid to the issue, as Mint State survivors are seldom seen; most such coins are in MS62 and lower grades, but even at this level the date is scarce.

This representative is almost in a class by itself in terms of eye appeal for the grade. Light, scattered grazes and some small ticks in the fields limit the numeric grade, though the nearly untoned, unusually frosty luster balances the eye appeal, and the devices exhibit remarkably sharp definition. A pleasing lower-grade Mint State example of this first Carson City Trade dollar. Population: 19 in 62, 17 finer (9/14).(Registry values: N4719)
